Sprekers bij Congres Art during crisis: from reflection to action

NL Alia is artistiek directeur en CEO van Shubbak, het grootste Europese festival voor hedendaagse Arabische en SWANA-kunst dat verschillende kunstvormen omvat. Ze stamt af van een clan die de koloniale grenzen overschrijdt die door het Sykes-Picot-akkoord zijn opgelegd in Palestina, Syrië, Libanon en Jordanië. Haar creatieve praktijk put uit theater en verhalen vertellen om de diepere oorzaken van ongelijkheid te onderzoeken, alternatieve hedenen te verbeelden en mogelijke toekomsten te oefenen, met projecten die variëren van lokale buurtwinkels tot wereldberoemde musea.

ENG Alia is the Artistic Director & CEO of Shubbak, Europe’s largest multi-artform festival of contemporary Arab & SWANA arts. She is the descendant of a clan that transcends the colonial borders imposed by the Sykes–Picot Agreement across Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. Her creative practice draws on theatre & storytelling to interrogate the root causes of inequality, imagine alternative presents, and rehearse possible futures, with projects spanning local corner shops to world-renowned museums.

NL Ama Koranteng-Kumi is een cultureel ondernemer, strateeg en adviseur, gespecialiseerd in institutionele verandering en sociale innovatie binnen erfgoedinstellingen en kunstmusea in Nederland en België. Ze is medeoprichter en artistiek directeur van MINO, een platform voor opkomende kunstenaars en innovatieve culturele praktijken. Daarnaast richtte ze Bloei & Groei op, een bekroond model voor stadstuinen in Amsterdam dat ecologische duurzaamheid combineert met sociale impact.

ENG Ama Koranteng-Kumi is a cultural entrepreneur, strategist, and advisor, specializing in institutional change and social innovation within heritage institutions and art museums in the Netherlands and Belgium. She is the co-founder and artistic director of MINO, a platform for emerging artists and innovative cultural practices. In addition, she founded Bloei & Groei, an award-winning urban garden model in Amsterdam that combines ecological sustainability with social impact.

NL An Vandermeulen is sinds 2020 artistiek leider bij Globe Aroma. An studeerde Germaanse Talen (Nederlands-Duits) in Gent en in Berlijn. Voor haar tijd bij Globe Aroma werkte ze als publiekswerker bij de Beursschouwburg en bracht zo nieuwkomers-kunstenaars in contact met het bredere kunstenveld. Globe Aroma is een artistieke werk- en ontmoetingsplek voor vluchtelingen, nieuwkomers-kunstenaars, Brusselaars, en actoren uit de migratie-, inburgering-, en kunstensector.

ENG An Vandermeulen has been artistic director at Globe Aroma since 2020. An studied Languages (Dutch-German) in Ghent and Berlin. Prior to Globe Aroma, she worked as a public relations officer at the Beursschouwburg, bringing newcomer artists into contact with the wider arts community. Globe Aroma is an artistic work and meeting place for refugees, newcomer artists, Brussels residents, and actors from the migration, integration, and arts sectors.

NL Bazeli Mbo is communicatie- en media-experte met meer dan 20 jaar ervaring in de audiovisuele en digitale sector. Ze werkt op het snijvlak van media en strategie waarbij ze communicatie inzet als instrument voor narratieve transformatie en sociale impact. Ze is medeoprichter en voorzitter van Team Congo, een organisatie die zich inzet voor gerechtigheid, vrede en soevereiniteit in de Democratische Republiek Congo. Ze heeft ook CAN (Congo Accountability Network) opgericht.

ENG Bazeli Mbo is a communication and media expert with over 20 years of experience in the audiovisual and digital sectors. She works at the intersection of media, strategy, and public engagement, leveraging communication as a tool for narrative transformation and social impact. She is the co-founder and president of Team Congo, an organization advocating for justice, peace, and sovereignty in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also launched CAN (Congo Accountability Network).

NL David Limaverde/FFCNL is een in Brazilië geboren, in Amsterdam gevestigde kunstenaar, docent en onderzoeker wiens praktijk kunst, activisme en collectief leren met elkaar verbindt. Hij is de oprichter van Home of Participation en een van de initiatiefnemers van Disobedient Art School, een platform voor artistiek onderzoek op het snijvlak van cultuur, ecologie en politieke actie. ENG David Limaverde/FFCNL is a Brazilian-born, Amsterdam-based artist, educator, and researcher whose practice connects art, activism, and collective learning. He is the founder of Home of Participation and one of the initiators of Disobedient Art School, a platform for shared study and artistic experimentation at the intersection of culture, ecology, and political action. NL Gaëlle Khalifé is een Libanese productiemanager in de kunstsector, momenteel gevestigd in Brussel. Ze heeft ervaring met producties in verschillende kunstvormen, waaronder theater, dans, beeldende kunst, en met een bijzondere focus op muziek. Gaëlle is ook medeoprichtster van het Tashattot Collective, waar ze toezicht houdt op de logistiek en administratie van het project.

ENG Gaëlle Khalifé is a Lebanese production manager in the arts, currently based in Brussels. She has experience working on productions across various art forms, including theater, dance, fine arts, and with a particular focus on music. Gaëlle is also the co-founder of the Tashattot Collective, where she oversees the logistics and administration of the project.

NL Madhumita Nandi is een Indiase artistiek onderzoeker en cultuurwerker die zich bezighoudt met de politiek van zichtbaarheid en representatie. Ze werkt op het snijvlak van politieke ecologie, archiefpraktijken en herinneringscultuur. Haar culturele praktijk is gebaseerd op collectieve actie en ontvouwt zich door middel van maatschappelijk-politieke initiatieven. In Duitsland ontwikkelde ze haar collectieve praktijk als artistiek mededirecteur van de in Berlijn gevestigde maatschappelijk-politieke organisatie Oyoun.

ENG Madhumita Nandi is an Indian artistic researcher and cultural practitioner engaging with the politics of visibility and representation. She works at the intersection of political ecology, archival practices, and memory culture. Her cultural practice is grounded in collective action and unfolds through community-focused, participatory socio-political initiatives held as shared infrastructures of care. In Germany, she developed her collective practice as artistic co-director of the Berlin-based socio-political organisation Oyoun.

NL Milica Ilic werkt als cultuurwerker rond projectontwikkeling, opleiding en kritisch onderzoek, met een focus op transnationale samenwerking in de podiumkunsten. Haar werk ondersteunt kunstenaars en organisaties die experimenteren met eerlijke, duurzame manieren van produceren en samenwerken. Eerder coördineerde ze het onderzoeksproject RESHAPE en werkte ze samen met Onda en het Europese netwerk IETM aan internationale artistieke verspreiding en netwerkvorming.

ENG Milica Ilic is a cultural worker whose practice moves between project development, teaching, and critical research, with a focus on transnational cooperation in performing arts. Her work supports artists and organisations experimenting with fairer, more sustainable ways of producing and collaborating. She previously coordinated the research project RESHAPE and worked with Onda and IETM on international artistic circulation and network-building.

NL Rana Yazaji is directeur van artasfoundation, the Swiss Foundation for Art in Conflict Regions. Ze is onderzoeker aan de Zurich University of the Arts, en adviseur en docent rond maatschappelijk geëngageerde kunstpraktijken. In 2011 was zij medeoprichtster van Ettijahat- Independent Culture. In 2014 werd Yazaji directeur van Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy), een non-profitorganisatie die artistieke creativiteit in de Arabische regio ondersteunt.

ENG Rana Yazaji is the director of artasfoundation, the Swiss Foundation for Art in Conflict Regions. She is a researcher at the Zurich University of the Arts, as well as a consultant in socially engaged art practices supporting organisations working with distressed communities. In 2011, she co-founded Ettijahat- Independent Culture. In 2014, Yazaji became the Executive Director of Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy), a non-profit organization that seeks to support artistic creativity in the Arab region.

NL Sandra Sara Raes Oklobdzija is een auteur, artiest, artivist, filosofe en regisseuse, gevestigd in Brussel. In haar theaterwerk onderzoekt ze het politieke potentieel van participatieve kunst en de manier waarop kunst kan bijdragen aan het herdenken van collectief geheugen en sociale structuren. Ze werkt participatief en co-creatief met diverse gemeenschappen. Ze ontwikkelt projecten waarin gemeenschapsvorming, integratie en co-existentie centraal staan, vaak in hybride vormen zoals performance, installatie en video. Daarnaast is ze actief als onderzoeker, docent en maker binnen geëngageerde artistieke praktijken.

ENG Sandra Sara Raes Oklobdzija is an author, artist, artivist, philosopher and director based in Brussels. She explores the political potential of participatory art and the ways in which art can contribute to the remembrance of collective memory and social structures. In the run-up to a production and therefore not necessarily on stage she works in a participatory and co-creative manner with various communities. She develops projects centred on community building, integration and coexistence, often in hybrid forms such as performance, installation and video. She is also active as a researcher, lecturer and creator within engaged artistic practices.

NL Sophia is een in Berlijn gevestigde fundraiser en projectmanager, gespecialiseerd in migratie, democratische inclusie en rechtvaardige participatie. Met een master in politieke wetenschappen blinkt Sophia uit in fondsenwerving, adviesverlening en projectontwikkeling binnen ngo’s. Bij Oyoun ontwikkelde Sophia intersectionele projecten met een queer*feministische benadering, en als freelancer ondersteunt die grassroots-organisaties en kunstenaars. Sophia is ook operationeel manager bij FundAction Foundation en Disruption Network Lab.

ENG Sophia is a Berlin-based fundraiser and project manager, specializing in migration, democratic inclusion, and equitable participation. With an M.A. in Political Science, they excel in fundraising, consultancy, and project development within NGOs. At Oyoun, Sophia co-developed intersectional projects with a queer*feminist approach. As a freelancer, they support grassroots organizations and artists. Sophia also serves as Operational Manager for FundAction Foundation and Disruption Network Lab.
