Plenary session visual arts on artists’ careers: Care & Wellbeing

What does physical and mental wellbeing mean in a high-pressure environment? How do you ensure balance in your life so that you can continue to develop your artistic practice?

Session visual arts on artists’ careers – Care & Wellbeing

Flanders Arts Institute and NICC aim to promote sustainable careers within the visual arts sector by focusing on the wellbeing and care of artists. We are therefore organizing an interactive working session on May 2 to have a conversation with a larger group in order to establish a support group in which initiatives around wellbeing and care can be shared and strengthened. NICC intends to provide longer-term support to the group of engaged artists that emerges from this track.

Focus group

To prepare this session, we engaged with a small focus group to explore the concepts of 'care' and 'wellbeing' in visual arts careers. The focus group participants included: Laura Basterra Sanz, Erien Withouck, Margo Veeckman, Kurt Vanbelleghem, Tine Deboelpaep, Nabil Aniss, Samuel Vanderveken, Lili Vanderstraeten, Sarah Deboosere, Maryam Kamal Hedayat.

Contribute to the Landscape Sketch 2025!

The material gathered in this session will be used by the Flanders Arts Institute for the Landscape Sketch. This is a comprehensive analysis of Flanders' professional arts landscape that FAI puts together at the beginning of a new political term. In order not to overlook anything, we organize sessions throughout 2024 in which we gather input from the sector, each time focusing on a different part of the arts field.
