Public conversation during Contour Biennale
On 22 October, Flanders Arts Institute, Contour and Argos are organising a public discussion as part of the Contour Biennale Mechelen. During this discussion, we will be examining the financial vulnerability of the audiovisual arts sector and the need for alternative forms of funding.
Public discussion
Funding for artists’ films is undergoing major changes. Streaming platforms are exerting a major influence, and private support also has a significant impact on the realisation of major commissions.
How are projects funded today, and what role can biennials and museums play in this? Where can we find alternative forms of funding, and how can we achieve an economically sustainable system? And what about the ethical issues, particularly within challenging political and economic contexts?
Speakers
This public discussion is part of an international visitors programme. During the discussion, the invited curators will take the mic:
- Greg de Cuir Jr, co-founder and artistic director of the Kinopravda Institute, Belgrade
- Amirali Ghasemi, independent curator, Tehran–Berlin
- Maksym Khodak, artist and curator involved with The Pavilion of Culture, Kyiv
- Sophie Korschildgen, assistant curator, Lead Live and outreach at the LAS Foundation, Berlin
- Abirami Logendran, artistic director of Fotogalleriet, Oslo
- Valeria Mancinelli, head of production and programming at Lo Schermo dell’arte, Florence
The discussion will be moderated by Heidi Ballet, curator and director of the Contour Biennale.
Practical information
Thursday 22 October from 6pm until 8pm in CC Mechelen (Minderbroedersgang 5, 2800 Mechelen).
The conversation will be held in English, followed by an informal networking drink where you can meet the guest curators.
