Dialogue session on operating grants: classical music

In the run-up to the deadline for operating subsidies (1 December 2026), Flanders Arts Institute is organising a dialogue session for exchange and reflection within classical music.

Together, we will discuss the functions that arts organisations take on. How are these functions fulfilled today, and who performs which function(s)? Where are we stuck, and where lie new opportunities?

Development, production and presentation

Throughout this day, we will engage in a collective discussion about the functions of development, production and presentation. These functions form the basis of how many music organisations operate. In most cases, these functions have evolved and taken shape over time. Together, we will explore the specific nature of these functions, as well as how they are interlinked.

Inspired by the Landscape Sketch of the Arts 2025, we will look together at what these interconnections mean for the feeling of overheating in our field and how we can together be part of a sustainable ecosystem in which players complement and reinforce each other. At the same time, we will also make room for the tension between autonomy, uniqueness and collaboration in a field where organisations for the sector and the public are defined by a clear identity.

We begin the day with a refresher on the functions, including specific attention to some under-exposed functions such as participation and reflection.
