Public conversation - Rethinking Support during Courtisane Festival

As part of Courtisane, an annual five-day film festival at various locations in Ghent, Flanders Arts Institute is organising a public talk on 3 April.

Together, we'll reflect on the changing role of film festivals and institutions in supporting artists' films, and address the challenges facing artistic film production and distribution.

Rethinking Support: challenges and opportunities for artistic film production and distribution

With artistic film production coming under increasing pressure, it is more important than ever to ensure that resources are distributed in a fair and equitable way. Yet we see many festivals and institutions struggling to maintain their role as an international platform for experimental and innovative work.

Who supports artistic film production and distribution today, and how? What role do festivals and institutions play in promoting fairness and equality? How are selection processes structured and how can they become more open, transparent and inclusive? What self-organising models can artists and professionals use to support their work?

These critical questions form the thread of the programme, shaping a public conversation with international guests and the wider audiovisual arts community in Belgium.
