Probability of Exchange #2: Visitors' programme performing arts during Openbare Werken
After a successful pilot edition of Probability of Exchange in 2024, we resume the visitors' programme with a first gathering between 12-14 May. This time, we meet during Openbare Werken, a new city festival in Ghent.
Are you a Belgian based art professional working within performing arts, art in public space, or participatory practices? Then join us for the programme and meet the international guests.
Programme (open to local professionals)
- Language: English
During our first gathering in 2025, we will meet in Ghent in the frame of Openbare Werken, a festival curated by eight cultural organisations united in the network Tot in de Stad!. On 13 & 14 May, we open the programme to professionals active in Belgian to join us in conversations on co-creation, polyphony in and off our stages, ànd within our way of working (inter)nationally.
Tuesday, 13 May
12pm – collective lunch in Ghent
1pm – walk and talk through Ghent, meeting with the artists
5pm – opening of the festival @ De Hub (Bar Edward, Speldenstraat 1, 9000 Ghent)
Wednesday, 14 May
10am – public talk: the festival partners and guests share their perspectives on co-curation @ De Hub
1.30pm – end of the programme
Public Talk "How to curate in a multi-voiced way?" - 14 May - 10 am
How to curate in a multi-voiced way? What practices exist and what are their experiences with multi-voiced curation in the arts? What could a 'dreamed' collaboration entail? How do you create more equality in the exchange and composition of a program? How can we think differently about artistic research, about creation, presentation, about the interaction with the audience and the societal significance of what we do?
A conversation where we provide insight into the process behind the co-curation of public works, exchange experiences (both good and less good) and engage in dialogue with peers from the national and international field and an audience about experiences related to multi-voiced curation.

Probability of Exchange?
Probability of Exchange is a (closed) visitors' programme where international professionals meet twice a year for a two-day gathering. During their stay, the invited guests share their practices with each other, discuss new perspectives for co-creation and collaboration, and meet the local arts scene.
This year's meetings look at polyphony and participation within the practices of artistic programming and (inter)national collaborations. We want to reflect collectively what a regenerative way of working is and can be, and how co-creation can be a method to democratise artistic decision making and foster inclusivity.
The selected participants for this year are:
- Zeynep Uğur, researcher, co-founder and director Istanbul Fringe
- Zeynep Ünsal, architect and co-founder Ankara Aks
- Diren Demir, interdisciplinary artist and curator
- Alia Alzougbi, artistic director and CEO Shubbak Festival
- Elena Leskova, creative producer and freelance curator
- Dr. Victor Fung, artistic director Pavilion Dance South West
The core of the programme is dedicated to collective exchange, and sharing experiences, resources, and perspectives. In this way, the programme aims to support sustainable collaborations and partnerships.
